Travel NewsA Jamaica Travel Guide by: Gordon Steven

BDadm01 2008.12.07 06:16 0 0

Jamaica has always been a special place since Errol Flynn, Noel Coward, Ian Fleming made it famous over 70 years ago. It has always been the first place people will name when asked about an island in the Caribbean.

In truth Jamaica has it all, which means a Jamaica Vacation or a Jamaica Honeymoon will be something extra special.

Just what makes Jamaica extra special is the real question, and this Jamaica Travel Guide will try to supply some of the answers. There are beaches to die for, mountains, and the most incredible red sunsets anywhere in the world, but that by itself is probably not enough to make you want to take a Jamaica vacation or honeymoon.

There is no doubt it is quite unlike other Caribbean islands close by in that it really does cater for a broad range of tastes. After all where else caters for everything from the idle beach bum to the wealthy, the honeymooner who wants isolation to the partygoer who is looking for an all action resort.

Jamaica, regarded by many as the most beautiful Caribbean Island is the ideal place for a tropical vacation. When you look at the many differing types of people who go on holidays to the Caribbean, they all have different ideas of a perfect tropical vacation. When you look at Jamaica and see lushly covered mountains, waterfalls cascading down onto beautiful white sand beaches, exotic flowers, and activities to suit all. Jamaica is a well developed tourist island, so if you want to play tennis or golf you can, scuba diving isn't a problem, and if you are a night owl then there is everything from piano bars to limbo shows.

The only area that isn't well developed is shopping, so husbands and men generally can be relieved to know that Jamaica is not a shoppers paradise - Yet!!

Choosing when to travel to Jamaica is an important part of a Jamaica Travel Guide, and Jamaica really has an idyllic climate so it is a year round tropical vacation destination. The average temperature is 77degrees Fahrenheit in the winter and 82 degrees in the summer. The coastal plains in the north get the benefit of the trade winds that blow from the Atlantic , and then there tends to be a breeze morning and evening caused by cooling and heating of the land.

It rains in May, and from August to October, but to be fair it doesn't rain every day, and the showers only last a couple of hours maximum.

To make use of any Jamaica Travel Guide you need to know what type of tropical vacation you are planning. Do you intend to travel on your own, or as a couple, or in a group. Jamaica has a huge variety of places to stay , enough things to do to satisfy even the most diverse of tastes. It really doesn't matter if you are a bunch of college students, honeymooners, or a family there is something for you. Getting married in Jamaica is very affordable, especially if you avoid the peak season from Late December to Late April when accommodation costs are at their maximum.

The type of accommodation you are looking for will be available, unless you must travel at peak season when early booking is essential, but then Jamaica isn't any different to any other Caribbean Island. Here you will find everything from Casual bed and breakfasts to inns with old world charm. There are super all inclusive resorts to luxury villas, in fact Jamaica has it all and more.

Then there is the small issue of what do you want to see and do. You can easily spend a week sipping pina coladas on a beach or by a pool, lying in a hammock under a palm tree with a good book. On the other hand you could go scuba diving, or river rafting, horse riding, or play golf on world class courses. Jamaica has something for all in the way of attractions and activities to keep you as busy or as idle as you want to be.

This Jamaica Travel Guide can only touch on this tropical vacation destination, but it is obvious that Jamaica is one unique and incredible Caribbean Island.

Travel NewsWhy You Should Choose Antigua For Your Next Caribbean Island Vacation by: Gordon Steven

    BDadm01 2008.12.07 06:14 1 0

Choosing a Caribbean Island Vacation is difficult because to the outsider the Caribbean is just the Caribbean, with each island being much like the other. The insider will however tell you that each island has its own identity, none more so than Antigua.

The island of Antigua is always associated with Barbuda, but this article isn't about Antigua and Barbuda, but about what it is that should make you want to choose Antigua for your Caribbean Island Vacation.

Antigua is the largest of the Leeward Islands in the Eastern Caribbean, north of Montserrat and Guadeloupe, and to the south and east of Nevis, St Kitts, St Barts, and St Martin. It is some fourteen miles long and eleven miles wide, totalling 108 square miles. This means with its 365 beaches, one for every day of the year, there is plenty Antigua to explore, and furthermore there is lots to see thanks to the close links with Britain and the British Navy in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century.

Visitors who have chosen Antigua for their Caribbean Island Vacation, also inevitably visit English Harbour which is Antigua's evocative historical district, around Nelson's Dockyard National Park. The whole harbour area was the headquarters of the fleet in Nelson's time. There are historical buildings and fortifications to be seen around the park.

Antigua's beaches are of course a huge reason for taking a Caribbean Island Vacation here. The majority of the beaches are on the west coast , which is the more sheltered calm and protected part.

All of the beaches are open to the public and each has different characteristics, so the main difficulty you will have is finding the perfect Antigua beach for you. One piece of advice is to never go to isolated beaches on your own, and another is to make sure you get good directions before you go.

On the northwest coast you will find Dickenson Bay and Runaway Bay, both highly developed and great resort beaches. Closest to St Johns are Fort James, and Deep Bay. In the winter surfers go to Galley Bay and the four beaches at Hawksbill are impressive, just beware that one is a nudist beach.

On the southwest and south coast of Antigua are where you will find the less visited and developed beaches because the area is quite hilly. A road winds along the coast here and you will find beaches like Fryes Bay, Darkwood Beach, and the beaches around Johnsons Point.

Rendezvous Bay, and Doigs Beach are especially very quiet beaches but not easy to get to. If you are looking for an Antigua Beach to relax on after visiting English Harbour then try Pigeon Point.

On the east coast, the south east corner is Half Moon Bay, is a national park, and if you want a family beach, then this and Long Bay which is as far to the east as you can go are both outstanding. The beaches facing east are quite rough but great for beachcombing.

Whether it is history and sightseeing or beaches, Antigua has something for everyone as a Caribbean Island Vacation

        Travel NewsCrater Lake

        davidstern 2008.08.13 13:17 0 0

Some of my best photographs were taken at Crater Lake National Park in Oregon, USA. It is one of the prettiest places I've seen in the USA and one of the prettiest I've seen at all.

Crater Lake is a lake in the crater of a volcano, last erupted some 8,000 years ago but is still considered active. The bottom of the lake is solid rock, what makes the lake’s water absolutely clean and transparent. The rim around the crater closes it from all sides, preventing wind from blowing over the lake, what makes the water perfectly still.

On August 7th, 2001, Roni, my traveling pal and I arrived at Crater Lake, coming from the north after a visit in the city of Portland, Oregon. I have never heard of the place before, but she did. She talked a lot of it as a "must" in our trip in the USA.

At the moment we first saw the lake, we were amazed of what we were seeing: The lake looked like a giant mirror lying at our feet, reflecting the sky and the rim. We drove on the road that went on top of the rim around the lake.

We stopped at the visitor center to see what the rangers can suggest. A ranger gave us a map and marked us some observation points. While we walked around the shop, Roni saw a postcard with a picture of the lake at sunset. She wanted to take a picture just like that.

At the evening, we came to an observation point at the south side of the lake, and watched the sunset from there. The sunset at Crater Lake is nothing like anything else. Roni said: It’s not the point where the picture from the postcard was taken. We must find it tomorrow evening.

On the next day we took more time to tour Crater Lake. It was worth every moment we spent there. As I studied the area, I understood that the picture from the postcard was not taken at sunset, but at sunrise. Roni insisted of watching the sunset once again from a better spot, and on the next morning – watch the sunrise from the view of the postcard.

On our second evening in Crater Lake, we watched the sunset from an observation point on the east side of the lake. The sun setting on the opposite side of the lake was beautiful. I can't compare it with anything else.

We left the spot when it was completely dark, and we drove half way around Crater Lake – on a winding dark road on a rim of a volcano’s crater – all the way to the western side. We set up our tent on the slope not far from the rim. We got to sleep at about midnight. We woke up at 4 o'clock a.m. just in time to get to the rim and see the sun starting to rise. I don’t need to add words to the pictures in my blog post at http://www.faceglobal.com/posts/Crater-Lake.aspx

          Travel NewsOur trip to Folkestone

          melli moo 2008.08.07 12:48 0 0

Ayten and dad took me to Folkestone it was bit of a long journey so I took my nintendo along in a small bag with two games. We had to get off to swap train a bit. When we got there it was fantastic I had never been there before so it was also a bit scary though. We had a bit of a look around while we were trying (almost not succeeding) to find the beach. When we found the beach dad and I rolled our trousers up and took our shoes and socks off and ran into the sea. The first time I went into the water it was freezing but I still wish Ayten had joined us because it was really fun. After that we realised we had not brought a towel with us so we searched everywhere for clothes. Then we found Woolworths and got some clothes for me. We visited debenhams  for dad. We then walked off to find a place to change clothes for us it ended up being macdonalds so then we had some delicious yet unhealthy food. After we ate our Macdonalds we walked a bit further then sat down on a black bench and watched a seagull. There we discovered that there was another way down to the stoney part of the beach. That was a water controlled lift. What you had to do was line up at one side and wait for your lift to come up. The lift was a carriage like thing which you had to sit in with other people on the benches here are the prices if you want to go on it. Oap: 50P,dog:50p,child:50p and for an adult it is 90p.
We collected a few stones and then we walked back to the water balance lift to get a ice cream in the shop next to Macdonalds. I had a double cone with chocolate and vanilla ice cream. Ayten had a sundae ice cream dad changed his mind and ended up getting a coffee.

          Wink
